
Virginia Liu was born and raised in Guangzhou, China, and relocated to Texas as a teenager. She received her BFA from the University of Texas at Austin and is pursuing an MFA at Washington University in St. Louis. Her work explores the complexities of identity, personal history, and cultural displacement within a globalized world, drawing from a rich tapestry of influences, including Oriental legends, folklore, ornamentation, and contemporary pop culture. Virginia Liu integrates elements of traditional Eastern art with contemporary Western aesthetics, delving into the intricate dynamics of multiculturalism and the immigrant experience. Her vibrant, colorful, and layered compositions featuring symbolic objects offer a unique commentary on the convergence of Eastern and Western aesthetics, reflecting modern society's playfulness and underlying complexities.
